[ The smile on her face is gentle and loving as she leans into the kiss. Her head follows his hand and she shifts to leave a kiss against his palm before her fingers link with his. Sometimes it’s hard to bring Cloyd back, especially when he’s grumpy, but she has his attention ]
[Gonna fly to protect his honor, huh Aerith?] Mm, yeah. [Just don't kill the guy.
Cloud heads back to the room, Aerith in tow as he grabs the blankets from where he'd dumped them on a nearby chair as he changed the sheets.] Comforter or no comforter? You can be a little firebug sometimes so maybe no...
[ Something like that. Just tell her who it is, babe, and hold her flower. ] Good.
[ She moves instantly to help set up the bed with trousers that are clearly too long for her; eventually she has to lean down and roll up the bottoms to stop the risk of tripping over herself. Finally, she tilts her head up and beams. ] You're warmer than the comforter, so we'll be fine.
[that lil wiggle as she pulls Zack's pants down and then puts his on is...The Best, truly.] They look great on you. Match your eyes. [Cloud pulls on Zack's pair and cinches the ties at his waist into a messy bow. Wow these are soft.]
I pick them on purpose. [ Because of course she does. She watches him putting on the new trousers, appreciating the view, before she leans up and undoes the ribbon in her hair, placing it to one side. ] You look handsome.
[OOOH, THAT HAIR, Cloud tries for all of a second to disguise how happy he is to see all her hair fluffed out before giving in, stepping closer to run his hands over it.] You trying to meet some kind of 'call Cloud handsome' quota? C'mon. [Stop embarrassing him, let him fawn over your hair.] I know it's a pain but your hair looks so good like this.
I have to do it at least twice a day or it's bad luck. [ She's grinning, though, and leaning into the touch. Please, keep touching it, she has no issue with this whatsoever. She is very careful when she puts the ribbon down somewhere safe, though, expression gentle. ] Maybe I can teach you how to braid it so it's easier.
[Goes a little quiet at that, playing with her hair again after she sets aside that ribbon, eyes not quite meeting hers.] ...Tifa used to do that for you sometimes, didn't she? When we had to camp out. You guys would brush each other's hair.
[ She’s quiet for a long moment, leaning up and closing her eyes. The touch is soothing, at least, and she can’t do too much more than nod her head. ] Sometimes. I’d never really had a friend like that before. Someone who would take care of me. It was just me and my mom.
[Lets go of her hair so he can wrap his arms around his shoulders, tipping his chin up to rest it on the crown of her head.] She loves you. She loves you and misses you, so much.
I love her too. I loved you all so much. [ She’d died for the world, it’s true, but she’d died for them, too. All of her hopes and prayers had been for those people that meant so much to her. ] I always make sure to check on you. I’m waiting... I was waiting for you.
[This is getting a little too close to painful, for both of them he thinks, so after a second of silence Cloud clears his throat and pulls back, reaching up to give the nearest lock of her hair a gentle tug.] Anyway. Yeah, I'll do your hair. If you show me what to do.
I’ll teach you. Maybe it can be part of our mornings together. [ That type of thing is important for them, making things feel better and normal. It’s important to make sure Cloud doesn’t slip too far from her too, to give him something familiar and loving every day. ] I like waking up beside you. I like being here with you.
Got used to sleeping with everybody, right? Same here. [To that end he flips the covers back on the bed, taking her hand to pull her into bed with him.]
A little. Now I'm used to sleeping beside the people I love. [ Zack and Cloud, sharing her evenings and nights with the boys she loves above everything else. Carefully, she slips into bed beside him and instantly reaches for him. ]
[Gives her another puzzled look as they climb into bed together, as she immediately latches on and snuggles against him while he gets his arm beneath her neck so she can rest her head on it.] ...why're you so sweet on me, huh? [Genuinely cannot figure this shit out. It's obvious why she's sweet on Zack, and if she asks he could tell her for days why anyone would be sweet on her, but him? Who'd wait around for him?]
[ Aerith frowns, tilting her head up to look at him. Explaining feelings like that... It doesn't really work, but she knows Cloud. She knows his heart and she knows the man he's become, the man she was searching for back at the Gold Saucer. She pauses to think, considering, thoughtful, before she finds her words. ]
Do you remember when we were in Cosmo Canyon and I was all alone? You said to me... You said that you were there for me. It wasn't because of the date, or because you wanted something from me. It was because you cared. You have a big heart, Cloud. I love that.
[She says half of it into his collarbone, her voice soft against his skin. Cosmo Canyon had been something of a religious experience for her and Red both; Red, because of his family and Aerith, because she'd finally gotten honest confirmation in what she'd suspected all along. Not from a scientist who wanted to use her for his own gain, not from her mother who'd always kind of believed. Bugenhagen, and the rest of inhabitants of the Canyon, they'd believed the Planet was just as alive as she did.
And still, sitting by that fire, she'd never looked so small and alone.]
You just...looked so tired, [Cloud confesses, idly playing with her hair as it streams over the pillow.] Like the whole weight of the Planet finally just settled down on you. Who could leave you alone when you looked like that?
[ It had been a great deal to take in at the time and Aerith can still remember it. She had felt so lost and alone, burdened with the knowledge she had been aware of since she was a little girl. Knowing what her mother had fold her, what Shinra had meant for her... Hearing it from someone who knew and loved the planet in the same way she did was as frightening as it was wonderful. She’d known what she needed to do; she was just afraid.
Dying for her planet was worthwhile, she thinks. Breathing out, she leans into Cloud. ]
I was really scared. I knew what I had to do but I was so worried I’d do something wrong, or that I would make a mistake. Knowing that you were there at my side, just because you were my friend... I was so happy. I was so glad I was with you.
