Anyway, Cid had this strict 'no chocobos' policy because I don't know, some weird story about when he was a kid and getting chased around by a mom chocobo, it was probably his fault. Anyhow, he doesn't like 'em. And the Highwind was originally gonna be for ShinRa, so of course it didn't have stables on it anyway.
But it was an emergency so I blackmailed Cid into letting me bring the birds on the ship.
I broke into his house and grabbed his flight school photo albums. [Cid could be surprisingly private about some things, especially anything that he perceived as making him look like he cares about other people. So Cloud of course threatened to show them to Yuffie.] Yuffie was already mad at him; all I had to do was wave a couple pictures in her direction and he caved.
All you gotta know is that he curses like a sailor and smokes like a chimney, and in these pictures he was wearing like, [Cloud gestures to his chest, as if spreading out the logo on a t-shirt] anti-smoking campaign shirt, right there. Loafers too. Nerd. [Which makes sense, he's a mechanical genius, but still. NERD.]
But he liked tea a lot, too! And I think he cared about Shera more than he'd ever tell her. [ Yup! Cid was wonderful and complex. ] And I bet he'd have said yes in the end anyway.
We had to clear out some space for them, since the ship doesn't have actual stables, and I suggested engineering because I didn't want them to throw up and crap where we sleep. Cid's all convinced they'll wreck the engines somehow and I'm like, no, would you relax? He didn't, keeps pacing outside of engineering and agitating them and I'm just like, Cid, you're gonna make them nervous so they'll definitely throw up.
So he's like, okay fine, and leaves them alone. I get Yuffie to feed them and everything's good. ...except Yuffie feeds them old greens.
Uh, Cid sympathy-puking when he sees the damage. [Okay, Cloud winces at that one, because it had been horrific. They'd honestly just grounded the ship and used water spells to clean the damn thing out, it was so bad.] I don't hafta say it, but I missed the race. And now Cid hates all my birds.
Yeah honestly, outside of a fight or like, if someone needs stealing done, she's kind of useless. [It's not entirely true.......but legit it's mostly true.
But mentioning her has reminded him and he pauses to dig a little green ball out of his pocket, passing over the low-level Ice materia to Aerith.] Actually, here. I found this in the stores down there; figure you could get more use out of it than me.
You're still mad about her stealing our Materia, hm? [ Cloud, you're so cute, have a cheek kiss.
The gift, though, makes her pause and she blinks, taking it into her hands. It warms a little and she holds it close, nodding her head. ] I'll make sure I take care of it. Thank you, Cloud.

-- Really?! [ And now she's sitting up, 100% in Cloud's face. ] They're going to get married? You didn't tell me, Cloud, that's wonderful!

[He mock-gestures a toast.]
So you got the birds on the ship. What happened?
